20 Worst Drinks in America 2010!
What an advertising slogan for these drinks! I’m sure they don’t include this in their advertising material…
In a previous posting, we looked at what your child could be drinking, here we’ll continue that topic.
It’s surprising really that there are only 20 worst drinks, and even more surprising that some obvious drinks are conspicuously missing. The basis of this list of drinks is their sugar and saturated fat content.
While these are two things we want our children to avoid drinking, there are other dangers lurking in some beverages – such as chemicals that can alter the genetics of a growing body, and cause cancers to form.
We won’t get into that now though. Here we’re focused on the 20 worst drinks and what they compare to. For example, it would appear that 1 bottle of Sunkist soda has the sugar equivalent of 6 Breyers Oreo Ice Cream Sandwiches.
As another example, McDonald’s Triple Thick Chocolate Shake will set you back, in sugar equivalent, of 13 McDonald’s Baked Hot Apple Pies. So, if you think of this as an addition to a meal, the result is disastrous – especially on the digestive system of a small, growing body.
In the final example, even water gets a mention! One bottle of Snapple Agave Melon Antioxidant Water has the sugar equivalent of 2 Good Humor Chocolate Éclair Bars.
The list goes on, but I’m sure you get the picture. It’s truly remarkable what we’ve managed to do to our eating patterns.
As life gets busier and more complicated, the thing to do is to take it back to basics – make things simple again. In terms of beverages, that’s ‘good ole’ plain water, and fresh juices (as a treat – remember, even fresh fruit still contains a high amount of natural sugars).
Why overcomplicate things? Your child’s behaviour will improve immeasurably once you make sure they are on a sensible diet. Mood swings will become less dramatic, and concentration levels will increase.
ADHD behaviour can be dramatically reduced by watching what your child consumes – both food and drink.
